Play Along at Home!

Follow these steps to play along with the Hefty Hound Health Club members

  • Get approval from your vet: We want this to be a safe and healthy process for your dog. Check with your vet before changing your dog's food or exercise routine. This is also a great opportunity to get an accurate starting weight AND discuss what a healthy weight would be for your dog.

  • Weigh your dog. You can use your scale at home: If you have trouble getting your pup to stay on the scale, weigh yourself first and then weight yourself holding the dog. Subtract the two numbers to get your dog's weight. For accurate weight measurements, always use the same scale to measure your progress.

  • Calculate how much food: On the bag of NutriSource Weight Management dog food you will find recommendations regarding how much your dog should eat. DO NOT feed the amount that is for their current weight - feed the amount associated with the weight you WANT them to be (for example: If your dog currently weighs 50 pounds and the vet says he should weigh 40 pounds, feed the amount associated with a 40 pound dog). • Take a "before" picture and send an email to HeftyHound@ktk9.com with your dog's name, age, breed, starting weight and "before" picture. We will post your information on the Play Along at Home Hefty Hound page!

  • Keep a Journal: Every day write down the amount of food and treats your dog ate. In addition, write down any exercise your dog did each day and any changes you have noticed in behavior, appearance, and attitude. BE HONEST!

  • Every two weeks, weigh your dog. Record in your Journal your dog’s current weight and any changes in behavior, appearance, or attitude you may have noticed. This is also a chance to evaluate how the program is going for you and your dog. What is working? What isn't? What are some changes you could make over the next two weeks?

  • Tune in to the Katie K9 Radio Show on Sundays from 4pm - 6pm! Hear directly from alumni members of the Hefty Hound Health Club and call in with any comments or questions you may have!

  • Attend the Final weigh in . The final weigh in will be announced later. Bring your pup and share in the success of the Hefty Hound Health Club!

  • Send an email ANY TIME! We want this program to be a successful one for you, your dog, and your family. Any time you have questions, concerns, celebrations, or anything else, you can send an email to HeftyHound@ktk9.com Do NOT hesitate to contact us!! NO question is a dumb question- so ask away! We are in this with you!

Before beginning any new food, exercise or health program with your dog, check with your vet first. See your vet for a wellness exam. We suggest having a full blood panel done to thoroughly record and track important information about your dog's health.
